Boy Meets Banana

Looking at the three images, with different options on my screen, I decided to go my usual way of coloring. Im reluctant to use techniques with these because the watercolor needs to be dominant. It would still carry the visual weight, but I also want to keep the digital aspect lite. For no other reason than a personal preference.

Caged

Its good to be back at my home base. I painted this outside my studio but I colored it and scanned it at my regular table. I did a lot of sketching in Cooperstown, as time allowed, but I have yet to scan any of it.
Ill be taking this weekend to catch up on personal work. I did one job in Cooperstown, while my friend worked on his own unexpected freelance. I always enjoy working in friends studios.

Artificial

I have a wicked sweet tooth. When I was a kid I would eat my parents sugar cubes if I had no candy at hand. I quit a lot of sweets and stay away from artificial sweeteners if I can. They're not good.

Thats What I Posed For...

I may not have a lot of photos my son, but he is usually willing to sit still long enough for some drawing. He is an avid reader and he reads a lot of books at once. Today was Sherlock Holmes.
Iv been torn about drawing from life, often making myself draw more realistically, but I would prefer to draw like this.

Painting Process

It would have been nice to fill the sky with them, but the two main crows in the picture refer to the two on the wire from In the Town, found below. This is the painting process that this book is made from. The first panel is acryla gouache (upper left). After that, its all digital.

Farmer Went to Market

Iv been trying to take these watercolors to the next step. With these last two and the Bendy series, Im thinking it must be more drastic.

Gearing Up For the Week

I picked up the model I will use for the toad in Lost Familiar today and gathered a bunch of reference for elements and backgrounds. I'm tempted to wait until spring to use a real toad (I don't want to buy one because then I will have the responsibility of a toad) but I will be fine with my model and photos to fill in the gaps. Last Thursday I shot the model for one of the main witches. Good model+ good costume = good photos.

Iv been thinking a lot of how the environments will be presented. The whole book in fact. Do I want to create a real space or take a more decorative approach? I really don't have to desire to create the space as real spaces go. I also don't want it to be such a departure from the other three in that way. It will be mixed media, or full PS, and that's already a lot.
