Beach Finished Up

This is based on a photo I took one afternoon while my daughter and I walked and played on the beach. It was a great scene.

New Painting Started

I did an under painting this afternoon for a new project. Things are settling in now that a couple of events have passed, and a new work schedule is forming for both paid work and personal projects. Looking at this, I plan on going much darker. With that in mind, I will be readdressing the Blueberry picture I did recently.

Competition

The first week of classes went well. I used this illustration in one of the digital classes to talk about making paths. More to the point: shape making and what to stay away from.

Not sure how this post will look. I'm trying out BlogPress to get images up. My iPhone saved me a lot of time yesterday since I don't have regular computer Internet access yet. I'm not convinced I need it... More on that later.

Brother Walking Down Stairs

In the opening scene, Brother walks out of the house with his sisters dress. The legs, individual arms, head, and shirt, all swap out to make him walk down the stairs of the house.

Today marks the first day of a hundred miles an hour until Im-not-sure-when. There is so much going on, and so much to do with work, family, and other, and I'm looking forward to all of it. Im pretty lucky.

Thick Foliage

I painted this treetop several times before it came to this. The marks were unexpected in how they ended up and only through stumbling did it happen. That series of mistakes and exploration is priming the air for this quarter's sketchbook class at RIT. A great way to ease into the year.

With a lot of the pieces being done, the story is starting to take form. I am saving the main character for last - everything I learn from these smaller elements will carry over to it. Kind of like painting in experimentation.

Immovable

Panoramic 2

This is for the collaboration between my friend and me. The softer watercolors will help push it back behind the main figures in the story. With many of the elements completed, on to the characters. In my off kilter schedule, I'm able to work on these in the day time, when time allows. The time these are done could not be allotted to freelance since I am constantly, and happily, interrupted. Its here-and-there time. Every day is different in the summer.

Last week was a conflicted work schedule. What little time I could get went to freelance so blog posts were light. This was from a series of photos taken in Allegany State Park this summer.

Houses

This house is based on one I photographed in Cooperstown where I took a lot of house and building photos. The architecture there is beautiful. Im trying to make elements for a story after freelance hours. The boy from Character Study... will live here.

Picking Blueberries

While we were in Cooperstown earlier this month, we went to an organic blueberry u-pick farm. With our four kids combined, we brought back five large bags of berries, and made two delicious pies, adding in market bought peaches to the mix. We snacked on berries the rest of the trip. So fresh; so good.
