The Start of Something New

I picked up a new still life box this past weekend. Its much smaller with a back on it. A smaller box was needed for some salt and pepper shakers that were too small for the bigger box. Iv been doing a lot of traditional work lately, so it was nice to return to digital. Lots to go to finish it.

Paper Birds

The day after I started this, I sat down, and three of the birds dropped off their strings. So I taped them down better and was happier with the subtle changes.

Dog and Cat 1

I was finally able to start the next still life. The little cat has blue jeweled eyes.

Cat and Bird

I should varnish the box and make it shinny.

In the Box

I painted the shadow box black this weekend and picked up some black cloth for this one; really liking the evolution of the box. I always say its going to be my favorite, but this one might be just because it includes the paper bird toy I made for my Migration comic a while back.
You can see in the photo, I'm keeping the layers as flat as I can, although they are still being used a little.

Doe and Reindeer

I'm not sure what that little white deer thing is; I'm guessing its a reindeer. Either way its super light and brittle. And I'm not sure what the doe is doing... catching rain or crying? I found them in an antique shop with the napkin backdrop. They were a great find.

Same set up as the others; the box pinned to the wall about 3ft. away from my laptop. 6x6

Gorilla and River Stones Part 2

I bumped all the still life paintings up to 6x6, and will move forward with that size for a while.

Gorilla and River Stones Part 1

Id like to draw in a window for him to look out. May be I'll make a box with open sides.

Red Things

We went to the store Sunday for primer and ended up getting some red things instead. The kids jumped on the theme and found way more then we needed for this one, but I can see the shadow box getting fuller and fuller in the paintings to come.

Shadow Box

I picked up a shadow box this weekend, pinned it up in front of my laptop, and put that elephant in there with some food for it. After I drew some uninteresting bottles last week, I realized I needed to set up some still lifes that would hold some interest and would be enjoyable to paint. This is 5x5, like the others. I printed it out and its really small, but I think I like the size and will stay with it for a while.
