Today's Sketches

I sat in the shade for a bit, sketching the family kids play in the pool this afternoon. I didn't bring my sketchbook today, instead using SketchBook Pro on the ipad. Its one of the programs Im concentrating on this summer.

After dinner, my son sat for me and I did this one while he read. Hes a great model who is very good at not moving.

Shadow Box

I picked up a shadow box this weekend, pinned it up in front of my laptop, and put that elephant in there with some food for it. After I drew some uninteresting bottles last week, I realized I needed to set up some still lifes that would hold some interest and would be enjoyable to paint. This is 5x5, like the others. I printed it out and its really small, but I think I like the size and will stay with it for a while.

Linked: My Father Was a Painter

My father was a body man who also painted cars and did a lot of pinstriping and sign painting. I grew up around a lot of bodyshops, dealerships and some junk yards where he would take me and my brother, who would slide around on the creapers or goof around on the jacks while he worked. He taught me how to hold a brush and how to stripe a car but I was terrible and could never pull a straight line like he could. But in a lot of ways, Im living the same life he did.
