Thanks For Visiting!

After three years and over 800 posts, I've reached my last entry for this blog. After much personal debate, its time to move on to other creative pursuits. Creating and feeding this blog was an invaluable experience and I thank you for all your visits.

Happy Halloween!

James Gurney at RIT

Illustrator James Gurney spent a few hours with us today at RIT. We were fortunate to hear him lecture on the history and practices of Plein Air painting, followed by a drawing demo, and a lecture on Imaginative Realism. If you follow Gurney's blog, Gurney Journey (gurneyjourney.blogspot.com), you will know how informative and enjoyable our afternoon was.

The benefit to the visit, aside form the informative, was the interaction. Gurney spent a lot of time with Q&A and offered some good advice to the students throughout the afternoon. It was also great to see some of the originals he brought, including some sketchbooks, of which Iv seen on his blog and in print. We all really enjoyed the visit.

Thanks James!

During Sketch Review

A lot comes up during sketch review for student projects. I like to have my laptop near to address issues visually. The frog was made for the class to talk about brush presets and a basic rending approach. The other two were from individual discussion.

Independent Study Demo

A student proposed an independent study for digital portrait painting this quarter. Its a great chance to examine digital techniques one on one. I did this one this afternoon while we met.
