A Little Progress

Ambush

I was surprised how much this got worked over from the original gouache sketch. I though It would stay really rough and show a lot of traditional paint. It got me where it needed to be though. Originally it was going to be one intruder. Here, with an ambush, the story expands.

The Fall: Underpainting

When the toad is done, I will go back and link it, visually, to the small one in Sunday's post. Her colors might change or something. This is the first full shot of the toad and so will set the look for the rest of the pages. That big swatch of ground on the right has got to go.

I really like the witch character. She is good at what she does but mainly she is known for mixing potions and working spells. She fights OK, but is no match for the aggressor. She knew the risks but couldn't stand by and watch her friend be beaten without some aid. The aggressor will not stop until her group is completely destroyed. What happens we will never know. The story is about the familiar.

Flow

I like the idea of the blog as testing ground.  It lets me put out ideas without confusing the harmony of my portfolio site, such that it is.  All ideas are worth exploring.  Even getting bad ideas out will clear the way for the good ones.  When Craig Frazier was explaining his sketch process, he talked about putting everything down, no matter what or how bad the idea might seem.  Here, these stray ideas could flow into something cohesive.  If I don't put them out there, how will I ever know?
