Working Methods Demo

Starting with a painting done in Photoshop,

Making paths in Photoshop

Finish in Illustrator.

Up to this point, I have been encouraging students in Digital One to scan their sketches and draw paths in Illustrator. This is to solidify their skills with the pen tool, pathfinder and general shape making. But that's not how I work. This week, I'm going over the method I use, which starts by drawing my paths in Photoshop and exporting them to Illustrator. There are specific reasons for this, but I'm not going to get into them in this post.
This little portrait shows how the painting looks in Photoshop (top image), and how it ends up in Illustrator (bottom image). They can take the principals in this explanation and apply it to their individual, traditional, painting styles.
