Jazz

Our summer session illustration assignment for Hartford is to work as a contemporary of an illustrator we like, depicting a magazine cover they were known to do. I love the work of Al Parker who worked a lot for Ladies Home Journal. I'm doing it digitally but did this grey watercolor study for approval. I plan on making a heading with a jazz design influence. For composition, I planned for a zig zag starting at the top right record and its accompanying background diagonals, moving to the magazine featuring a portrait of Ella Fitzgerald, to the group of three records, to the girls face. The length of her body should bring the eye back up. Ill have to call to discuss early this week which is turning out to be a hectic one.
