With the discovery, or realization, of another brush option, I'm finding this a little more painterly but also have to change my attack a bit. After classes today, I spent my drive time back to Buffalo thinking about where to take these portraits beyond what they are as people. I was also thinking about the trees and overall landscape and the structure of the upcoming Digital Mixed Media class in the spring quarter.
Looking at old school painters and illustrators has been very helpful with these portraits. This includes one of my favorites, John Collier (b.1948), who I was looking a lot at during my time with gouache.
