I mentioned before I'm doing paintings of most of the big non-secular holidays. US holidays for the most part but I might throw in Boys Day and Girls Day from Japan. I started New Years tonight. Sketches hit me as I went to sleep on Christmas day and I put down several versions until it clicked. I got half done on the second stage as pictured here. I tried to simulate the Moleskine as best I could for texture and paint behavior and it worked out well, with the right amount of repelling. Very happy about that. Can you see the deer sketched out in the lower right?
All red. I spent so many years hating red so I guess this is the backlash.
I'm really looking forward to looking at these when next Halloween rolls around. That's when I started and that's when it ends. Or may be just the first year ends. That's probably more likely.
